Athidi movie review

So, last night, I convinced Raghu to give in to my impulse- to just go watch a telugu movie, any one, perhaps the one that is much advertised. I convinced him to not consult or consider, just drive to the nearest theater and watch Athithi. It won't kill you, I said.

Now it almost did. But we survived. And I have to live with its lasting impacts too. I seriously compromised the credibility of my theory- that life is best enjoyed with spontaneity and that impulsiveness often opens doors to the fun world. Raghu now thinks giving in to my impulsive decisions, at least with watching desi movies can be fatal.

So, the movie...where do I start ?!! It was, without doubt, the two most excruciating hours I paid to sit through. I know what you're thinking at this very moment...not bad, it is only a 2 hour movie!- ah ha ! Not true. We survived the experience without permanent brain damage BECAUSE we made for the exit in two hours :). The movie lasted much longer.

Let me start with the not so bad things about this movie. The basic formula for the story is that of "Pokiri". Malaika Arora does an item number and she looks HOT. The movie stars Mahesh Babu who, no matter how inane the film and how awful the script, gives it his best and manages to prove his superstar abilities. Mahesh does ok and is the only watchable character- but there is only so much he can do with the ridiculous script and the absolutely incompetent director.

It is an awful film. It is long, inexplicably boring and it is predictable. The dialogue writer has the maturity of a 14 year old avid movie goer and the IQ of not more than 45. Here are the reasons why you should find a better use for your money and skip Athithi:

1. Amrita Rao is indubitably unwatchable. You can pretty much use this as a thumb rule ! Whatever little credit she earned with being a fully clothed lead actress in Vivah- ooosh..gone. Don't let that movie fool you. Remember Pyare Mohan ?

2. Athithi is a standard formula that is awfully awfully done; The offering includes cheap buffoonery for comedy, poor matrix stunts for the invincible superhero, gory fights, disgusting make up and costumes, children/characters mouthing dialogues that make you cringe, music is below average, very repetitive choreography and Amrita rao,a lousy actress with severe acne problem whose only purpose in the movie is to show off her midriff- which isn't completely free of flab.

The movie is sooo utterly boring that I had the time to memorize the interiors of the theater while also coming up with simple redesign solutions to improve the appearance of this San Jose IMC 6 place.

So that's that. Having sat through this abysmal movie, I had to prevent any more waste of time and money!
